The Five Most Iconic Chocolate Movie Moments to Celebrate the New Wonka Film
In celebration of the upcoming release of Wonka, a musical fantasy film telling the origin story of everyone’s favourite chocolatier, Willy Wonka, we’ve taken a look back at some of the most memorable chocolate moments in movie history.
Come with us as we take you on a magical mystery tour of cinema confectionery that captured the hearts and imaginations of children and adults alike…

Forrest Gump – the classic box of chocolates
According to Forrest’s mother, life is like a box of chocolates. “You never know what you’re gonna get.” And we’d have to agree. The fun of a big, beautifully wrapped box of chocolate bonbons is in guessing what flavour each one will be. Or for the risk averse amongst us, there’s always the little menu card.
In the movie, Forrest claims he could eat “about a million and a half” of those chocolates. We know a few members of the Keylink staff who feel exactly the same!

Matilda – the indulgent chocolate fudge cake
Who hasn’t watched Bruce Bogtrotter devouring an entire chocolate cake and wished they could swap places? Just us?
Matilda introduced us at a young age to the pure delight of a decadent, multilayered chocolate ganache cake, and we’ve never grown out of our love for this ultra-indulgent treat. Looking for the recipe? Luckily, you can make the exact cake Bruce so heroically consumes if you grab a copy of Revolting Recipes!
We’re first in line.
While we won’t encourage you to eat an entire chocolate layer cake (no judgements, we’ve all done it), we do have a recipe for some triple chocolate mini loaves!
Chocolat – the divine hot chocolate
Chocolat explores the idea that chocolate is a little bit mystical, with the power to make us feel a certain way. Whether it’s a classic bar from your childhood invoking nostalgia and comfort, or a completely unqiue flavour experience that opens your eyes to new possibilities, chocolate has the ability to change hearts and minds.
One of the most iconic scenes in this celebration of all things cacao involves a stubborn, narrow-minded character tasting hot chocolate for the first time and becoming suddenly converted to the wonder of the sweet, warming beverage (and becoming a little less stubborn and narrow-minded in the process).

Harry Potter – the magical moulded chocolates
No trip to Honeydukes is complete without a requisite chocolate frog. Just be mindful it doesn’t hop away before you can eat it!
There’s nothing more nostalgic than a chocolate figurine, from the classic Christmas reindeer or snowman figure, to a more contemporary 3D bunny or hen for Eastertime. And bonbons and bars can come in almost any form too, from the instantly recognisable ChocoBrick to bubble bars to gem shapes. It’s practically magic!
And, as we all know from Harry Potter, it’s essential to carry a little bit of chocolate everywhere you go, in case of a Dementor attack. We don’t make the rules…

Willy Wonka – the weird and wonderful chocolate bars
In the classic novel, Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, Grandpa Joe says that Mr. Wonka has invented over two hundred different kinds of Wonka bar, and he probably isn’t far wrong. From the recipes mentioned in the original book, to the 1971 and 2005 movies, and the real-life range of Wonka chocolate bars created to publicise the films, there have been many variations. All more deliciously wacky than the next!
Featuring fillings and flavourings such as caramel, fudge, popping candy, biscuit balls, toffee, nuts, marshmallows and fruits, Wonka’s bars are an endless source of inspiration for chocolatiers looking to design a unique range of chocolate bars customers will love.
Given time, we might be able to come up with over 200 chocolate bar recipes, but for now here’s a Ruby, Raspberry and Pistachio bar recipe to try!
We can’t wait to see what the creators have come up with for the new Wonka movie!
So, here’s your excuse to take a night off and indulge in some cinematic magic, perhaps with a bag of chocolate buttons or a mug of your favourite hot chocolate drink. You might even discover a creative spark – all you’ll need is a little pure imagination…
